Aftermarket parts for riding lawn mowers.
The bagger system for my $1,500 riding mower was almost $400! We’re talking a collection chute and a couple of cloth bags … Versus an entire lawn mower with hydrostatic transmission, a motor, steering system, four wheels/tires, seat, etc etc!
Same thing goes for water filters for refrigerators. They are stupid expensive, especially if you buy the branded ones.
@accelerator Also in the electric yard user. Most folk say to buy the combo set (mower plus battery) and sell off the mower to get a better deal. I dont trust the off brands of these large batteries.
@fjp999 I haves mixed experiences with off-brand batteries. Most have been bad. Dyson and Segway are two disappointing experiences where buying OEM batteries is the best way to go.
@cfg83@macromeh I know exactly ZERO about animes, but I’ll see if I can find this one. I have a co-worker who’s been prodding me to watch one called “Attack On Titan” (I think)…
Attack on Titan is a masterpiece. When I watched it on Cartoon Network, I would turn off the lights and disable second screens. The ending has been … controversial, but still worth the journey.
If you like Blade Runner, then Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, will blow you out of the water.
@lisaviolet Oh man yeah. I remember the 29 cent burger crazy in the 1980s. Makes me want to go to Y-Not burgers in Torrance right now, but I fear the price would be no fun.
@lisaviolet We had a place that for years sold a $3.99 lunch, including a Big Burger w/ any or all of the fixings, a very large fry, and a large (24 ounce) pop of your choosing…Now, the same thing is over $11!!
@tohar1 We had a placed called Baker’s (even had a drive-thru) where you could get a combo meal - cheeseburger, fries and a drink) for .59. Yep, fifty nine cents. Back in the seventies.
Gas
@tweezak Yep, then you do have Beans to help
Oh…and airport food
Stadium food, and I already expect it to be fucking stupidly overpriced.
hospital
Homes
Home and car repairs.
@hchavers
I do most of my own. As much as I can.
I did have a plumber out yesterday for the water heater and that was $570.
@hchavers This.
The quote to replace just the floor boards of my deck (not the framing or railing) was twice what the original deck cost to build.
Pretty much everything.
@Pony So… life in general.
KuoH
IRKs
@heartny
And shipping.
@heartny AMEM 2 that, I remember when they were only $5
Surcharges and fees
Women’s bras and underwear.
Like, what do you mean this tiny pair of panties is $30? I can get a backpack and a duffel bag for less than that.
@kittykat9180 hehehe… just don’t go for the Fancy stuff. Just go for the multi pak
@kittykat9180 @mycya4me With those thick seams that dig into my hips? I don’t think so.
@kittykat9180 One word solution: Commando
@macromeh
But women have discharge and also menstruation.
@kittykat9180 @macromeh you can use pantiliners for non menstruation days when you want to go commando
@catthegreat
To the best of my knowledge, pantyliners line panties. How are you commando if you’re wearing panties?
@kittykat9180 you put them in your jeans / slacks / pants
Speaker docks.

Fancy - my riding lawnmower doesn’t have a refrigerator, let alone filtered water.
Batteries for my electric lawnmower. The replacement batteries cost ~50% of the cost of a new mower (it comes with 2 batteries and a charger)

@accelerator I am in the Ego system and their batteries are crazy expensive. Their warranty is excellent so will stick with their OEMs.
Revenge.
@macromeh
@cfg83 I like this one:
@cfg83 @macromeh I kind of like that one that looks like it’s from an anime…
@macromeh @tohar1 Yes, it’s an anime that is an adaption of the Count of Monte Cristo, so … revenge :
Gankutsuou: The Count of Montecristo-Trailer
But wait …
Why You Should Watch Gankutsuou (The Count of Monte Cristo) - YouTube
@cfg83 @macromeh I know exactly ZERO about animes, but I’ll see if I can find this one. I have a co-worker who’s been prodding me to watch one called “Attack On Titan” (I think)…
@macromeh It’s because of all that dry ice you have to ship it with. Everyone knows it’s best served cold.
@macromeh @tohar1
The animated clothing is unique to Gankutsuou.

For me, it’s eating at restaurants. I almost never do anymore because of this. Shocked how little a $50 spend will get nowadays.
@tohar1 Yeah, it’s a disaster.
/showme Restaurant customer feinting after seeing bill.
@cfg83 Here’s the image you requested for “Restaurant customer feinting after seeing bill.”
@mediocrebot I think the wine and beer were half the price of the bill.
@mediocrebot And the people in the back are scared because they know they will be next!
/youtube “losing my religion”
Fast food value menu.
@lisaviolet Oh man yeah. I remember the 29 cent burger crazy in the 1980s. Makes me want to go to Y-Not burgers in Torrance right now, but I fear the price would be no fun.
@lisaviolet Hmmm …
/showme Fast food restaurants across street from each other are competing on hamburgers prices below 30 cents.

@mediocrebot I’m definitely a speedy burger man, and not because of the price.

El Cajon, California.
@lisaviolet Cue up Archie & Edith singing, “Those Were The Days!”
@lisaviolet @tohar1 You mind my read …
What costs more than I expect?
The cost to ship a package
@heartny Even postage (letter or postcard) has exploded over the past few years, and USPS is still losing money!!
@heartny @tohar1 And going up another 8% on the 26th. Temporary until end of the year, reason given - gas.
Stamps another 4 cents July 12th. Can’t be 80 or 85 to skip the penny rounding fun.
@heartny @speediedelivery The company I work for averages over $400 per month just in postage. It wasn’t that long ago that it was $250 or less.
@heartny @speediedelivery @tohar1 Does this mean I can sell my forever stamps for a profit?
/showme Wimpy saying the following to skeptical fast food cashier : I will gladly give you 8 forever stamps on Tuesday for a hamburger today.
